How to Install New Car and Truck Shock Absorbers

To get the shock all the way out, we need more clearance. By using a floor jack under the lower control arm, you can raise the suspension and tire up off the ground to give you just a few more inches of height for the shock to come out at an angle.

(SAFETY TIP: This is a good time to use a jack stand ! )

You can see the shock is now out in the picture. Notice the two small studs on the lower control arm where the shock bolted on. You can also see the tire is just a couple of inches off the ground, that's all that was needed. (no need to jack it up a foot or two).

The old shock is lying on the ground. Leave the jack where it is.
